Welcome to

Teočak

Teočak was first mentioned around 1432 and is one of the most important medieval sites in these areas. Due to its position, it has always been the target of occupation and was conquered by Hungary, Serbia and the Ottoman Empire. Under the fortress itself is the Fethija Mosque, believed to have been constructed by Sultan Mehmed II after the capture of the fortress from the Hungarians at the end of the 15th century, when the Ottoman authorities first mentioned the areas around Tuzla.

Through the generations, the locals of Old Teočak found numerous medieval objects in the vicinity of the fortress: tools, dishes and even ducats. This is probably why another folk tradition says that the Ottomans left a huge treasure in the Old Fortress; however, archaeological research in this area has not yet been carried out, so the story of the Ottoman treasure will live on.

Lake Snježnica is the true jewel of these areas. In this clean and peaceful environment, you can sail, fish, swim, and have fun in the heart of the Majevica Mountain. This clean lake is surrounded by trees, so it is an ideal place for rest and protection from the sun. It is a real paradise for fishermen because Lake Snježnica is rich in fish.

Rarely has a city changed so many rulers as Teočak. Since its creation in the Middle Ages, it has played an important role due to its fortress and strategic position, from which you can see Drina and Sava, Bijeljina and Brčko and many settlements in Semberija. Today, Teočak is one of the important symbols of Bosnian resistance.
