Welcome to
LUKAVAC
The city of Lukavac, located in the River Spreča valley, is the largest in this area and the third largest in terms of population in the Tuzla Canton. The city has a rich cultural, historical and industrial tradition and the development of tourist capacities began after the creation of Lake Modrac. With a large number of catering facilities and organized outdoor picnic sites, it is becoming one of the most attractive destinations for sports fishing in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The legend associated with Lake Modrac is the legend of the white woman. They say that when the dam was built across Spreča, all the people were relocated, apart from one woman who refused to leave because of her husband’s grave in front of the house. Before the valley was flooded, all the houses were checked once again, but there was no sign of the woman. She hid from people and remained there, at the bottom of the lake.
With the area of 17 km2, Lake Modrac was created by the construction of a dam across the River Spreča. The shore of the lake is adorned with numerous catering facilities, where while enjoying the gastronomic specialties you can also enjoy the beautiful view. The shores of the lake are overgrown with forest, and the tourist capacities are supplied with healthy food and catering support from the settlements located along the shore.
Although known as an industrial city, Lukavac offers its visitors natural beauty and a wealth of cultural and historical heritage which provide numerous opportunities for relaxation, recreation, and entertainment.
